Here at Yarrawarrah Public, we take a serious stance towards the relationships forged between teacher, student and parent. That is why we have employed the new technique for mending the rifts casued at school by a dispute. Restorative practice is a new technique developed to help students, staff and parents find healthy ways of relating in school, at home and in the workplace.
It is a way of easily identifying common problems and resolving them so that the education of the child, and the work conditions of the teacher are not comprimised in any way.
There are ways and procedures that are undertaken to identify many core problems, such as self reflection. Question asked include:
When things go wrong
* What happened?
* What were you thinking at the time?
* What have you thought about since?
* Who has been affected by what you have done?
* What do you think you need to do to make things right?
When someone has been hurt
* What did you think when you realised what had happened?
* What impact has this incident had on you and others?
* What has been the hardest thing for you?
* What do you think needs to happen to make things right?
This is the main core of Restorative Practice. The self reflection of the student identifies where they believe the problem exists and the peace keeper can judge and act accordingly.
