Yarrawarrah Public School began its life in the spare classrooms of the newly established Engadine High School in February 1969. The first school buildings were finished on the present site on Old Bush Rd in September 1969 and 132 pupils started school in the four classrooms. The first principal was Mr Allen Stephens.

By 1970 the school had grown sufficiently to require the building of four additional classrooms and a library.

In 1990 the school administration block was extended providing new office space and a staff room.

By 1994 there were sufficient enrolments to have 2 new classrooms built. Around the same time a house, that had been previously occupied adjacent to the school site was acquired and became our Before and After School Care Centre- The Cottage.

In May 2006 work began on the school hall. This is due for completion in Term 4 2006.
